#MyHackathon – My Favourite Hacks Pt 2
In Part 2 of my ‘Favourite Hacks’ mini series that ties in with the #MyHackathon campaign from Brooke (have you signed up!?) we are moving along the country a little from the dramatic backdrops of Cornwall where we left Tina Wallace and Banksy from LIFEOTLR to beautiful Devon. A county with coastlines on to the north and south and with an enormous range of rolling countryside in between and an area of South Devon I know particularly well. I’m introducing one of my personal portrait shoot clients from 2017, Laura Symons.
Laura and I met in 2017 just before we did her personal shoot she’d won in an auction the previous winter… we’ve since become good friends since the shoot, keeping in touch and catching up directly when we can despite the miles between us. Food is always involved in these moments and the topic of conversation is generally her rather tasty minimal marked coloured gelding who I have a bit of a soft spot for – Eric.
My name is Laura and I live in south Devon with my pony Eric, a 14.2hh cob X. We’re very lucky to live in a lovely spot with a great collection of horsey friends. Eric is also known as The Chocolate Unicorn by those that know him well.
Tell me a little about the horse/s in your life, what you do with them and if you have any specific aims (competitive or non-competitive) with them for 2018:
Eric and I do a bit of everything; eventing, hunting, showing, show jumping and dressage. Our calendar is very full and busy!! He really does take on everything, some days getting confused about what we’re doing – having his hunting brain in while we’re doing a dressage test is not ideal! In 2018 I’d like to complete more BE90’s so we’re confident at this level, and to qualify for Trailblazers and Cricklands. We also compete at the county shows but we do have lots of down time in between!
I’d love to hear about your favourite hack location. Where is it & what makes it such a great place. Can we see a photo?
That’s a tricky one as being so close to the coast is lovely but I have to say Dartmoor on a dry day is hard to beat! The views go on for miles, but I have so much respect for the place that I tend not to go off the beaten track too much. This picture was taken out hunting this season. It was a very breezy day but dry and sunny. You need to be very prepared on Dartmoor as you often get all the seasons in one hour really!
Do you have a message for anyone taking part in The Brooke #MyHackathon this year?
Well done for taking part, it’s such a worthy cause. I hope you have safe and varied hacks!
