With the Brooke #MyHackathon launched and under way I’m really hoping that many of you decide to take part, either on your own or with your fellow yard friends. If you can’t directly take part this year you could still help by pledging directly to Brooke or through friends taking part in this seriously worthy cause.
During the campaign I’m running a series of mini blogs that feature some of my fabulous personal & commercial clients and hopefully some equine names you may be familiar with as they each tell us about some of their favourite places to hack.
In this, the very first of my mini series, I’m super pleased to introduce to you all a very special partnership in the equine world. Life on the Left rein (LifeOTLR) is a fabulous blog/vlog hosted by Tina Wallace and follows her exploits in life with her seriously handsome coloured chap – Banksy. This partnership have been together for a few years now following Bankys’ arrival from Ireland, unbroken, aged 5. I’ve been following Tina for sometime now on social media. I LOVE her outlook on life and you all know I’m a total sucker for a smart coloured horse…. !
It’s an absolute joy to virtually watch these two experience everything as they tackle life together. So, it’s time to find out a bit more about these two…
My name is Tina Wallace I’m 32 years old and live in sunny Cornwall. We have a beautiful little small holding a couple of miles outside of Truro where I live with my husband Rob, our 2 dogs Sam and Blue and of course my main man Banksy!! I work in the motor trade which I have done since I was 18 in order to fund my expensive hobby that is eventing, it is also where I met my hubby, who is also my boss…. This has its Pros and Cons!! I rode as a child from about the age of eight at a local riding stables, every Saturday morning but was never fortunate enough to own my own horse until seven years ago. Cut a long story short, it very quickly spiralled from happy hacking around the beautiful Cornish countryside to driving hundreds of miles and spending hundreds of pounds to partake in British Eventing. Much to my husband’s delight.
Tell me a little about the horse/s in your life, what you do with them and if you have any specific aims (competitive or non-competitive) with them for 2018:
My Horse Banksy is an extremely handsome skewbald Irish sports horse standing at 15.3hh. He has the most loveable nature, is VERY cheeky and LOVES to jump! This year I am going to be pushing myself to focus on the dressage, we managed to gain our first sub 30 score last season and WIN Launceston BE90, ending the season with 2 regional final qualifications, making us a few steps closer to the dream of riding at Badminton… grassroots obviously!!
I’d love to hear about your favourite hack location. Where is it & what makes it such a great place?
With working 8-6 Monday to Friday and not having an arena at home it is very hard for me to keep Banksy in full work during the winter, therefore we do not really compete as neither of us are fit enough. We become pleasure riders during this time of year enjoying leisurely hacking and the odd trip to the beach. One of our favourite hacks is a 15 minute trailer journey, which takes us to “Poldark Countryside” where we can go off road for miles over the Great Flat Lode, along the old mineral tramway trails and up to the top of the historic hilltop site of Carn Brae Castle where you can see for miles. Its refreshing for both horse and rider to take in different sites, smells and to well and truly relax on a Sunday Morning!
Can we see a photo from this hack?
Yes, of course, but we can do better more too! Last year as part of our blogging for Horse & Country TV we vlogged about a fantastic hack we went on with Emily and her horse Lola! Please do have a watch and see how we got on in gorgeous Poldark country!
Finally, do you have a message for anyone taking part in Brooke #MyHackathon this year?
Banksy and I love hacking and strongly recommended people get out there and take part in Brooke #MyHackathon this year.
Hopefully you’ve enjoyed this blog and will share it with others. To find out more about Brooke’s #MyHackathon campaign then please head to Brooke #MyHackathon. Keep an eye on my social media for the next episode…. who’ll be next?
